History: The Yamanaka clan (Yamanaka Ichizoku) is a family of ninja found in Hi no Kuni. The members of this clan specialize in mind-centered techniques which makes them experts at intelligence gathering and espionage. They have also displayed sensory abilities and their techniques include transferring consciousness, reading minds and communicating telepathically. The flower symbol of this clan is the bush clover which symbolizes a "positive love". Most members of the Yamanaka clan wear their hair in a long ponytail, which appears to be traditional.

The Yamanaka clan has a special relationship with the Akimichi and Nara clan. For generations, members of these three families have formed an "Ino–Shika–Chō Trio", named after the first part of the names of the members. The Yamanaka members are the "Ino" in the trio. To strengthen the unity between the three clans, a member of the Sarutobi clan will give them special earrings to present to each generation head when they are promoted to chūnin after which they will swear their oaths. The earrings also symbolise that they are considered adults by their respective clans.

Kekkei Genkai/Bloodline Trait name: Mind Body Switch Technique "Shintenshin no Jutsu"

Kekkei Genkai/Bloodline Trait: The Mind Body Switch Technique is the signature ability of the Yamanaka clan. Originally, this ninjutsu was suited for intelligence-gathering missions rather than battle. With it, a ninja sends his mind into a target's body supplanting the target's mind with their own. The user transfers their consciousness to the target, giving them complete control of the body for a short period of time.

While in control of the body, the user is able to communicate with the target. As the user propels all of their mental energy, the shooting range and number of hits are considerably limited. It is also possible for the user to switch bodies with the target. This has great strategic value when used on a team-mate as neither body is left incapacitated and they may also make use of the user's abilities as well as their own while doing this. To remain inconspicuous when spying, the user can perform this technique on an animal, such as a hawk, which they can use to do aerial reconnaissance.

Drawback(s): Unless the target is still and/or left immobile, this kekkei genkai has a low success rate against player characters and can be more easily avoided. This technique can be used freely against a non-player character or wild animal, however, but the duration of control and cooldown doesn't change. This technique lasts for five of the users post, with limited use of their lowest-level jutsu and player characters that are your rank or higher have a chance of kicking you out of their own consciousness for that duration. The cooldown is ten posts. Upon the use of this technique or if the user misses his/her target the user's physical body will be weak and immobile for as long as he/she is in control of their target and the user will be unable to return to it until after three posts. All damage received while in control of the target is also received by the user's true body.

Description: A ninjutsu where one sends their chakra into the subject's nervous system, thus operating the enemies body at will. The enemies this technique is cast upon are completely under the users' control as their bodies become disconnected from their will. The difference between this, and the Mind Body Switch Technique is, the caster doesn't project their consciousness into the enemies body. Situations of numerical superiority for the adversary are precisely where this technique, which freely manipulates human beings, will display its efficiency, by getting the enemies to turn on one another. Control can be exerted even from a distance.
Drawback/Duration/Cooldown: This technique only works well against non-player characters and wild animals. Cooldown of four posts.

Name: Mind Puppet Switch Cursed Seal Technique

Description: The user of this technique firstly transfers their mind into a puppet laid somewhere in advance, near the vicinity of an enemy's predicted path, before manipulating it to attack an intended opponent. When the opponent counters and inflicts damage upon the puppet or the puppet inflicts damage on the enemy, the cursed seal will take effect, causing the kanji 'curse' (呪) to disappear from the puppet's forehead and the two consciousness (that of the user's inside the puppet and that of the victim who countered) to switch. Consequently, the user will gain full control of the opponent's body, while the victim's mind remains trapped within the immobile puppet.

Like the original technique, the user's body is left defenseless while the ability is active and any injury done to the victim's body is also reflected upon their true body, but this can be rectified if the user cancels the technique just before any damage is received. Unlike the original, the user does not have to worry about the target's will overpowering their own, as it is sealed in the puppet.
Drawback/Duration/Cooldown: This technique traps the target's consciousness in a doll for four posts. Instead of gaining control of the user, it simply leaves the target's physical body vulnerable for the same duration. Cooldown of eight posts.

Description: This technique allows the user to telepathically communicate with other people. The user can also transfer this ability to another person by touching their forehead. The user can communicate with multiple people at once and the targets can also communicate with one another while the technique is in effect.
Drawback/Duration/Cooldown: It requires that the user be in a state of meditation where he/she can actually focus their own chakra on others. In other words, the user must remain stationary while the technique is being used.

Description: The user projects a violent surge of chakra from their mind to the target's, temporarily disorienting them and also hurting the target's mind itself. This often results in a headache after-effect which can persist in the long-term for the target.
Drawback/Duration/Cooldown: Target remains disoriented for the next four posts. Four post cooldown.
